Default Can't access Microsoft sites on a Windows Server 2003

The other day I was using a virtual private server (vps) of mine that would not allow me to access any microsoft sites..

    microsoft.com
    live.com
    ..etc

I spent a few hours messing around with settings before finding the actual problem... It turned out the vps was affected with Conflicker:B and Conflicker:C

To get rid of these worms you have to scan and delete them with a microsoft removal tool (Download details: Microsoft® Windows® Malicious Software Removal Tool (KB890830)) which takes about 20-30 minutes each time.

After removing the worm you then have to go to the microsoft update site to get the latest patches, this then protects your vps from future attacks.

However as the vps was new and had never had security updates since 2003 there were around 103 to download.. this meant after every 20-30 installed updates the vps would need to reboot to apply the new updates causing the conflicker worm to reinstall and block me from the microsoft site so I had to scan and remove the worm about 4 or 5 different times in this continuous loop until the correct security update patch had been installed to stop it from carrying on!
